ECF China Unconventional Week Report - Nov 7 2026

Liaohe Shale Oil Output Tops 500 Tonnes
A report published on November 6 said combined daily oil production from Liaohe’s Leijia Sha-4 and Zhengning Chang-7 demonstration areas had exceeded 500 tonnes. Joint research with PetroChina’s exploration and development institute identified eight sweet-spot intervals in Leijia and developed production technologies for high-pour-point, highly viscous shale oil. Supporting drilling advances achieved more than 2,128 meters in one run and increased drilling speed by 127%. In Zhengning, sweet-spot targeting, integrated operations and differentiated staged fracturing improved production startup and sustained output, supporting commercial shale oil development.

Daji Expansion Targets Additional Gas Capacity

An industry report dated November 2 highlighted accelerated construction of Phase II at PetroChina’s Daji coalbed methane field in Daning and Yonghe counties, Shanxi. Fracturing operations are progressing at pads including Jishen 15-2. Covering 251.2 square kilometers, the project plans 401 new production wells and 110 stations, adding annual production capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters upon completion. Construction tasks are expected to finish in the first half of 2027. Coordinated drilling, fracturing and surface infrastructure development will expand the field’s capacity and strengthen regional unconventional gas supply.

Shanxi Coalbed Methane Production Hits Record

A report carried on Shanxi government websites on November 2 showed provincial coalbed methane production reached 11.74 billion cubic meters in January–September, a record for the period and approximately 80.2% of national output. Coordinated development of the Qinshui Basin and the eastern Ordos Basin supports stable shallow-to-medium-depth production and growth from deeper reservoirs. Shanxi’s estimated coalbed methane resources above 2,000 meters total approximately 8.31 trillion cubic meters. The province is also expanding associated helium recovery, with enterprises producing 6N-grade ultra-high-purity helium to improve overall resource utilization.
