On August 10–11, CNPC Chairman Dai Houliang visited Daqing Oilfield to review operations, reforms, innovation, and employee conditions. He urged the oilfield to follow President Xi Jinping’s instructions, advance development of a century-old oilfield, and contribute more to national energy security and CNPC’s high-quality growth. During visits to national oil and gas metering facilities and Daqing’s digital intelligence industrial park, Dai emphasized technological self-reliance, digitalization, and control of core technologies. He also called for efficient exploration, profitable development, faster new-energy expansion, deeper reform, stronger management, strict safety and environmental protection, and Party leadership to support Daqing’s transformation and modernization goals.

On August 4, field exploration results from the Weifang Shouguang geothermal resource survey passed an expert review in Shandong Province. The panel examined project reports, original records, maps, drilling sites, and core samples, confirming that the technical approach, organization, quality controls, and findings were reliable. Led by the Shandong Provincial Institute of Geotechnical Investigation, the project has completed geological surveys, geophysical exploration, drilling, production testing, and reinjection trials. It identified reservoir geology, burial depth, spatial distribution, temperature fields, and fluid properties. The next phase will estimate resources, assess development potential, and propose utilization plans, including geothermal heating for vegetable greenhouses.

Beijing Geothermal Laboratory Officially Launched

On August 6, a Beijing Key Laboratory for Efficient Geothermal Development and Smart Energy Supply was inaugurated at China University of Petroleum-Beijing. The laboratory is led by the university and jointly established with the Beijing Institute of Engineering Geology, Sinopec New Energy Research Institute, and Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology. Its launch marks a new stage of institutionalized collaboration between Sinopec and the university on deep geothermal development. The platform will integrate basic research with engineering applications, focusing on deep geothermal assessment, drilling and completion, enhanced geothermal systems, reservoir stimulation, and smart multi-energy supply, supporting sustainable low-carbon energy development nationwide.
