In late February, the national key R&D program project under the “Basic Scientific Research Conditions and Major Scientific Instrument Development” initiative—focused on the development and application demonstration of an electromagnetic multi-parameter array measurement system, with participation from BGP Inc.—successfully completed its 2025 achievement review and optimization of the testing outline, officially entering the critical stage of final acceptance.

As a key participating unit, BGP has leveraged its technological and platform strengths throughout the project to promote independent and controllable core technologies in domestically developed high-end geophysical exploration equipment. The electromagnetic multi-parameter array measurement system, regarded as a “smart eye” for probing the deep Earth, is a core instrument supporting national deep mineral exploration and deep-Earth scientific research. It carries strategic significance in reducing reliance on imported high-end exploration instruments and safeguarding national energy security.

The project centers on the core objectives of “independent innovation, bottleneck breakthrough, and application empowerment,” focusing on key aspects including instrument hardware development, core algorithm optimization, supporting software architecture design, and field demonstration applications, with steady progress in R&D tasks.

Academicians Lin Jun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chen Xiaofei of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with an expert panel, highly recognized the phased achievements. They noted that the project aligns closely with national deep exploration needs and has made significant progress in hardware, core algorithms, and supporting software, with some outcomes already successfully applied in production, effectively supporting China’s deep resource exploration strategy. The panel recommended that the project team closely target the 2026 acceptance milestone, address technical shortcomings, and further refine testing plans to ensure performance standards are met and results efficiently commercialized.

As a core supporting unit, BGP has promoted the project with strong leadership and precise implementation. Relying on high-level platforms such as the National Oil and Gas Geophysical Exploration Technology Innovation Center and the CNPC National Engineering Research Center for Oil and Gas Exploration Software, BGP has long specialized in geophysical data processing and interpretation, proprietary algorithm development, and independent software platform R&D. Its multidisciplinary integrated open software platform provides solid technical support for deep integration, system optimization, and upgrading of the project’s hardware and software. Its Comprehensive Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration Division has strengthened resource coordination and refined implementation measures, ensuring full-process support for R&D and accelerating the efficient completion of technical tasks.

BGP will continue to enhance responsibility and resource allocation, deepen open collaboration and hardware-software integration, and fully advance toward project acceptance, striving to achieve large-scale domestic application of high-end electromagnetic measurement systems at an early date and contribute CNPC’s strength to deep resource exploration and national energy security.
