From December 18 to 19, an expert consultation meeting on the Hetao area of Huabei Oilfield and the Lenghu exploration area of the Qaidam Basin was held in Xiong’an, Hebei Province. The meeting aimed to fully implement the CNPC Party Group’s work requirements on achieving breakthroughs in Qinghai, systematically review experience, and formulate scientific strategies, injecting new momentum into Huabei Oilfield’s high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

The meeting invited Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Liu He (ECF Distinguished Senior Expert) and Zhao Wenzhi, Professor Zhao Xianzheng from the CNPC Consulting Center (ECF Distinguished Expert), former Deputy General Manager of CNPC Exploration & Production Company Professor Du Jinhua, and former Chief Geologist of BGP Li Yalin. Wu Xi, Executive Director and Party Secretary of Huabei Oilfield Company, attended and delivered a speech, while He Xinxing, General Manager and Deputy Party Secretary, presided over the meeting.

At the meeting, Huabei Oilfield, the CNPC Exploration & Development Research Institute, BGP, and relevant universities delivered 12 thematic presentations, including “Hydrocarbon Accumulation Conditions, Enrichment Patterns, and Favorable Exploration Areas and Directions in the Linhe Depression of the Hetao Basin” and “Research Progress and Exploration Deployment Concepts for the Lenghu Area of the Qaidam Basin.” These reports systematically reviewed the current exploration situation and future directions of the two areas, laying a solid foundation for further advancing basic research and achieving new exploration breakthroughs in the Hetao and Lenghu areas. Participating experts provided detailed comments and offered guiding opinions and suggestions on geological research and breakthrough directions from perspectives such as hydrocarbon generation, reservoir formation, oil and gas enrichment patterns, exploration direction selection, and geophysical technology breakthroughs.

On behalf of Huabei Oilfield, Wu Xi expressed a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the leaders and experts who have long supported the oilfield’s development. He noted that despite the difficulties and challenges facing the Bayan and Lenghu areas, it is essential to maintain strategic resolve and strengthen confidence in development. He emphasized building on existing achievements, firmly implementing the group’s exploration conference requirement of “promoting a virtuous cycle of reserve growth and production increase,” deeply analyzing existing accumulation understanding in the Bayan area, summarizing oil and gas enrichment patterns, and driving new exploration breakthroughs in mature areas, so that Bayan Oilfield continues to lead CNPC’s exploration and development. He also called for facing difficulties head-on, addressing the issue of unclear directions for large-scale reserve replacement in the Bayan area, viewing exploration success rates from a dialectical, historical, and objective perspective, and carrying forward Huabei Oilfield’s spirit of meticulous exploration through hard and practical work in the Hetao and Lenghu areas. Finally, he stressed the need to emancipate the mind, seek truth from facts, maintain strategic focus, uphold problem-oriented and innovation-driven approaches, apply dialectical and critical thinking, and leverage the methods of “exchange, comparison, and repetition” to identify, understand, and summarize geological规律, pool collective wisdom, and win the critical exploration battle in the Lenghu transferred blocks.
