Expert Review Comments:

This achievement broadens coalbed methane stimulation to address gas desorption and coal-fines management together. In-situ heat and gas generation complement reservoir stimulation to promote desorption and supply energy, while an ultrasonic microbubble cleaning device addresses fines-related production constraints. The distinctive contribution is a treatment combination designed around coal adsorption behaviour and practical production obstacles. Applications in relevant Xinjiang blocks provide field experience. For coalbed methane wells affected by limited desorption, insufficient energy or coal fines, the approach offers an additional intervention option, with potential to improve treatment targeting, production conditions and the range of available specialist services.

Main Innovations:

A coupled temperature–seepage–stress reservoir stimulation mechanism overcomes the limitations of conventional treatments confined to seepage and stress fields. Based on Langmuir and Weibull models and coal-seam geology, a thermodynamic stimulation process and matching exothermic, gas-generating fracturing fluid are designed. In-situ chemical reactions combine thermal desorption, gas displacement, reservoir energization and self-cleaning. An integrated coal-fines prevention device combines source control with intelligent cleaning: ultrasonic microbubbles lift coal fines at the source, while online automatic cleaning and intelligent monitoring complete the system. The fracturing process and coal-fines prevention device reinforce each other and can be deployed independently or together, combining production enhancement with coal-fines control.

Main Uses and Technical Principles:

The project improves coalbed methane resource development, well performance and production stability, while reducing production safety risks and supporting clean energy and low-carbon development. Coalbed methane is held on coal surfaces through weak hydrogen bonding, and reservoirs exhibit three-low characteristics and poor pore-throat properties. Conventional fracturing mainly modifies stress and seepage fields, while pressure-depletion production can cause energy loss, water blocking and coal-fines blockage or pump sticking. Existing coal-fines controls have limited effectiveness. Based on Langmuir and Weibull mechanisms, the technology combines volume fracturing with desorption-heat inversion to customize an exothermic, gas-generating fracturing fluid. Thermodynamic stimulation breaks adsorption bonds for thermal desorption, and in-situ heat and gas generation energize the reservoir and enlarge the stimulated volume, enabling production without pressure depletion. Matching coal-fines prevention equipment improves single-well productivity and production stability.
