Expert Review Comments:
This project connects near-bit measurements with drillstring dynamics, bit design and trajectory control, making drilling optimization more responsive to actual downhole conditions. High-frequency measurements identify vibration and weight-transfer problems, while fully coupled modelling and dynamically balanced bit design guide vibration reduction, friction management and effective rock cutting. Applications in more than 3,800 wells show an overall 23.5% increase in rate of penetration. The technology is internationally advanced overall, with fully coupled dynamics modelling and dynamically balanced bit design internationally leading. It offers an effective route to balancing drilling speed, hole quality and operating stability in complex well trajectories and difficult formations.
Main Innovations:
First established a multi-factor coupled WOB correction model and intelligent stick-slip early warning system, reducing WOB error from ±15% to ±5%, with >92% accuracy and 90 s advance warning. Pioneered a fully coupled drillstring–bit–rock model and developed drag evaluation software, improving drag/torque prediction accuracy from 85%/82% to 92%/88% and cutting computation time from 2 days to 1 minute. Invented a bit dynamic-balance design method and developed high-specific-pressure, chord-edge tooth bits, reducing stick-slip intensity to 36.31% and doubling footage. Developed an intelligent auxiliary decision system and integrated ROP-enhancement process, increasing average ROP by 23.5%. Pioneered ultra-small zero-length anti-deviation straight-hole closed-loop control, keeping well deviation ≤0.50°. Overall, internationally advanced, partially internationally leading.
Main Uses and Technical Principles:
Main applications: For efficient drilling of complex-structure wells such as extended-reach wells, horizontal wells, cluster wells, and deep/ultra-deep wells, addressing industry challenges including inaccurate near-bit engineering parameter measurement, unclear drillstring dynamics, low rock-breaking efficiency in deep hard/plastic formations, and poor deviation control accuracy in upper vertical sections. Technical principle: An integrated technical route of "near-bit measurement – dynamics analysis – collaborative rock breaking – closed-loop control" is established. A near-bit multi-parameter measurement tool obtains real downhole engineering parameters. A fully coupled drillstring–power tool–bit–rock dynamics model is built for drillstring dynamics analysis and friction/torque prediction. Based on the analysis, dynamic balance bit design and optimal matching of acceleration tools are guided to achieve efficient collaborative rock breaking. Combined with a downhole closed-loop vertical drilling system and an intelligent auxiliary decision system, real-time drilling parameter optimization and downhole risk warning are realized, forming an integrated closed loop from measurement to control.
