Expert Review Comments:
Reliable well-control equipment requires qualification methods that reflect demanding service conditions. This achievement combines dynamic fatigue, erosion, extreme pressure and temperature, and small-defect detection in an integrated testing framework, extending evaluation toward coupled service factors. Complementary test facilities and standardized methods have supported inspection of more than 15,000 equipment units or sets, with applications spanning 21 countries. This demonstrates a substantial specialist-service capability and a foundation for international adoption. The contribution extends beyond testing hardware: it strengthens design validation, quality assessment and the ability to verify the reliability of a critical well-control safety barrier.
Main Innovations:
The project establishes three independently developed core inspection technologies and associated standards for well-control equipment. It pioneers fatigue–dynamic–erosion testing of dynamic seals and develops multiple domestically original high-pressure, high-speed erosion test devices, addressing shortcomings in dynamic performance verification of high-end equipment. It introduces static-seal inspection under coupled extreme-temperature and ultra-high-pressure conditions, building China’s first complete-equipment test platform for extreme operating conditions and filling gaps in deep-well environmental testing. High-precision phased-array and magnetic-flux-leakage defect detection is integrated with quantitative seal-defect assessment and full-life-cycle digital management, enabling intelligent equipment inspection and overcoming dependence on foreign technologies and standards.
Main Uses and Technical Principles:
The project outcomes apply to factory inspection, in‐ service re‐ inspection and R&D verification of well‐ control equipment for deep and ultra‐ deep oil‐ gas drilling, including blowout preventers, well‐ control manifolds and internal blowout‐ preventive tools, supporting blowout risk prevention.Based on multi‐ factor sealing‐ failure mechanisms, it integrates fatigue‐ erosion simulation, extreme temperature‐ ultra‐ high‐ pressure environment simulation and phased‐ array‐ magnetic‐ flux‐ leakage composite detection. Real downhole harsh conditions such as alternating pressure, medium erosion and temperature‐ corrosion are reproduced for dynamic‐ static sealing tests. Nondestructive testing identifies tiny internal defects. Digital models enable seal‐ life prediction and full‐ life‐ cycle assessment to quantify safety limits. It fills domestic gaps and supports safe‐ efficient deep oil‐ gas development.
