ZJU SUPCON and Sinopec Teams Advance Smart Development Plan for Deep Shale Gas Block
On November 6, a technical team from SUPCON Technology Co., Ltd. of Zhejiang University visited Chongqing and held a joint technical coordination meeting with the Exploration & Development Division, the Chongqing Natural Gas Division, and the Digital Intelligence Technology Company of the Sinopec Zhejiang Oilfield Branch. The meeting focused on the implementation plan for the deep shale gas capacity-building project in the Wufeng–Longmaxi formations of the Dayan 101 Well Area in Western Chongqing.

The parties concentrated on the core needs of digital transformation and intelligent development in the Dayan block, extensively exchanging views on optimizing development pathways, system architecture design, and coordinated full-chain management. Multiple consensuses were reached regarding the acceleration of digital–intelligent transformation and the cultivation of new quality productive forces in the gas field.
At the meeting, the Chongqing Natural Gas Division outlined four major challenges currently facing development in the Dayan block:
Broad production management coverage leading to high coordination difficulty;
Diverse data sources with inconsistent acquisition standards, resulting in low governance and application efficiency;
Heavy multi-dimensional integrity management tasks across equipment, pipelines, and stations;
Limited technical support capacity, insufficient to meet intelligent construction needs.
In response, the SUPCON team leveraged its experience in industrial digital-intelligence technologies, proposing four core development priorities based on the current status of industrial automation and IoT infrastructure in the Dayan block:
Centering on digital delivery to realize full-process data acquisition and analysis, full-cycle data quality control, and systematic data organization and asset-level management;
Expanding the scope of information system management to build a production operation system covering well sites, pipeline networks, stations, and the regional level;
Enhancing integrity management modules, strengthening collaborative management of equipment, pipelines, and stations;
Building a unified database and knowledge base to break data silos and support intelligent decision-making.
During the technical alignment stage, frontline teams from the Chongqing Division offered four concrete suggestions based on operational needs:
Strengthen cross-system data-sharing mechanisms to eliminate “information islands”;
Optimize equipment and metering management modules to improve ease of use;
Improve emergency response coordination workflows for faster incident handling;
Carefully plan data flows across all system modules, considering deployment architecture and network connectivity.
The SUPCON team responded to each suggestion, confirming that the plan would be further tailored to align with field requirements.
Ultimately, all parties agreed on a follow-up schedule and to form a joint working group to推进three major phases:
• Phase 1: plan refinement and optimization;
• Phase 2: pilot testing and performance evaluation;
• Phase 3: full-scale implementation.
They also identified key breakthrough areas: domestic adaptation of industrial control systems and multi-source data fusion analysis, aiming to build the Dayan 101 block into a replicable, promotable benchmark for intelligent deep shale gas development.
This coordination meeting established an efficient platform for multi-party collaboration in smart shale gas development. By integrating operational experience with SUPCON’s innovative R&D capabilities, strong technological momentum will support intelligent gas-field development. The parties will continue to deepen work in oil and gas digital-intelligence transformation, using technological innovation to support safe, efficient, and green energy development and contribute to national energy security.
