CNPC Western Drilling Expands Cementing Operations in Kazakhstan with Six New Wells
On October 22, CNPC Western Drilling Cementing Company announced another breakthrough in the Kazakhstan market after signing a contract with a local drilling firm for cementing operations on six wells located in Atyrau Province.
Since the beginning of this year, the company has secured more than 40 external cementing service contracts in the Aktobe and Atyrau regions of Kazakhstan. The new batch of orders once again demonstrates the growing brand influence and technical strength of “Western Drilling Cementing” in the Kazakh market.
In recent years, facing technical challenges such as the complex subsalt pressure systems of the Kenkiyak field, narrow-gap cementing in the Ury River area, and shallow-gas-bearing formations in the Keshan oilfield, the company’s overseas project department formed a specialized task team. By thoroughly studying geological and drilling conditions, coordinating with local oilfield owners, drilling contractors, and domestic experts, and improving cement slurry systems and operational processes, the team successfully solved multiple cementing bottlenecks in these blocks.
The company has proactively extended its service scope — engaging in clients’ early wellbore structure design and providing long-term cementing quality tracking and evaluation afterward. It has also implemented a strong localization strategy, with over 85% local employment, cultivating a group of skilled Kazakh operators and engineers.
To date, Western Drilling Cementing Company has carried out cementing work on more than 2,000 wells across Kazakhstan since entering the market in 2001, with its market share steadily increasing. Among the newly contracted six wells, one has been completed, and cementing work on the second well is about to begin.
