China Launches Deepest and Most Advanced Fault Zone Drilling Project
The mobilization meeting for the Red River Fault Scientific Drilling Project of the China Earthquake Science Experiment Field was recently held in Yuanyang County, Yunnan Province. This marks the official launch of the most technically challenging fault zone scientific drilling project in China, featuring the greatest drilling depth and the most extensive range of observation activities.
The project is planned to span one and a half years and includes the drilling of one scientific borehole to a depth of 3,000 meters and one pilot borehole of 800 meters. The aim is to collect deep underground core samples, build a core repository and laboratory, and conduct downhole geophysical and geochemical observations. These efforts will provide a clearer understanding of the deep structure of the Red River Fault Zone.
