The Weizhou 10-5 oil and gas field is located in the Beibu Gulf area, about 75 kilometers away from Beihai City, Guangxi, with an average depth of about 37 meters. The exploration well was located nearly 5000 meters underwater and obtained an oil and gas reservoir with a thickness of 283 meters. This well tests a daily production of about 370000 cubic meters of natural gas and 102 tons of crude oil, becoming the first granite buried hill oil and gas exploration discovery in the Beibu Gulf Basin.

Fan Caiwei, President of the South China Sea Western Petroleum Research Institute of CNOOC Zhanjiang Branch, stated that the Weixinan Depression is the most oil and gas rich depression in the Beibu Gulf Basin, and drilling is carried out in the near sag fault zone with the most favorable oil and gas accumulation conditions to achieve exploration breakthroughs.

In recent years, the difficulty of discovering integrated oil and gas fields in China has gradually increased, and there is an urgent need to search for new areas of reserve growth. Currently, China has obtained large and medium-sized oil and gas discoveries of various types of buried hills in multiple sea areas. The newly discovered exploration in the Beibu Gulf Basin will help ensure the stable supply of oil and gas resources in China.
