China adds one million tons of large oil fields

On October 22nd, CNOOC announced that the development projects of Xijiang 30-2 Oilfield and Xijiang 30-1 Zone in the eastern part of the South China Sea were put into operation 65 days ahead of schedule. This is an oil field in the southern waters of China, with the highest newly built production capacity among the oil fields put into operation this year. The peak daily crude oil production exceeded 3600 tons, which is of great significance for improving China's high-quality energy supply capacity and accelerating the cultivation of new marine energy productivity.

The Xijiang 30-2B platform is the core facility of Xijiang 30-1 area in Xijiang 30-2 oilfield. The average depth of the sea area where it is located is about 98 meters, and 23 production wells are planned to be put into operation.

The platform integrates drilling, production, and living functions, with a total height of about 198 meters, a total weight of over 30000 tons, and a projected deck area of over 3600 square meters, equivalent to the size of 10 standard basketball courts.


Xijiang Oilfield began production in 1994 and has produced over 2 million cubic meters of crude oil annually for 28 consecutive years, with a cumulative production of over 100 million cubic meters of crude oil. It is the oilfield group with the highest cumulative production in the eastern South China Sea.


Geological reserves around the oil field have increased tenfold


Rolling exploration and development is one of the most economical and efficient means to increase reserves and production in oil and gas fields


China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has innovated the integrated exploration and development model, implemented the strategy of "finding oil fields around oil fields", and conducted rolling evaluations of new oil and gas structures in the mature area of Xijiang Oilfield. After 4 years and 3 rounds of research and development, the marginal oil field reserves have been successfully "thawed", increasing the geological reserves of Xijiang 30-1 area in Xijiang 30-2 Oilfield by nearly 10 times, reaching the scale of a medium-sized oil field and promoting the launch of new projects.

In recent years, CNOOC has made 7 new discoveries in the exploration of Xijiang Oilfield. With the commissioning of Xijiang 30-2B platform, the number of operational production facilities in the oilfield group has reached 7, further enhancing the ability to ensure national energy security.


99% independently designed and manufactured, with a digital coverage rate of 95%


The key equipment of Xijiang 30-2B platform is completely designed and built independently by China, with an overall proportion of independent research and development and manufacturing of 99%, and a digital coverage rate of 95% for core business. It is equipped with intelligent production and operation systems, typhoon unmanned production mode, regional power networking, 5G public network and other modules, which can realize the intelligence of crude oil production, equipment maintenance, and safety management scenarios. Its production marks a new breakthrough in the intelligent development mode of China's offshore oil fields.


Through over 1000 instruments and sensing probes distributed throughout the platform, the platform can simultaneously monitor and detect the entire production process at both sea and land ends, helping to quickly identify, judge, and solve safety hazards.


In addition, the platform also adds intelligent all-in-one machines compared to traditional projects, forming a "dual brain" structure with the central control system to perform real-time health management on key equipment, reducing human intervention and making remote operations safer and more reliable.


The construction period of the Xijiang 30-1 area development project in Xijiang 30-2 oilfield lasted for 19 months. CNOOC vigorously promotes the collaborative innovation of the entire industry chain and enhances the independent research and development level of large-scale marine equipment. The application of new generation technology in pipeline racks has successfully achieved independent research and development of a complete set of specialized equipment for pipeline racks, including packers, pile clamps, water injection and emptying systems, grouting systems, and energy absorbers.


The project also achieves optimal resource allocation efficiency through the utilization of large main generators and regional power networking, significantly reducing construction and production costs, promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of offshore oil and gas fields, and helping traditional offshore oil development models to leap towards self-reliance, digitization, and greening.
