On December 13, 2021, Xinjiang Oilfield "Hutan 1 well, a combined risk exploration well in the middle section of the southern margin of Junggar basin, made a major breakthrough" won the special prize for major oil and gas discovery achievements of PetroChina in 2021. The well has maintained stable and high production for a long time, producing more than 100 million cubic meters of gas and nearly 16000 cubic meters of oil in more than 300 days.

The lower combination field in the southern margin of Junggar basin is one of the expected "depths", and it is also a rare anticline oil and gas accumulation group that has not been explored on a large scale in China. The reservoir forming conditions are excellent. The estimated natural gas resources are 2.5 trillion cubic meters, and five sets of large-scale reservoirs are developed, which is the most important guarantee for accelerating the development of natural gas in Xinjiang Oilfield, It is also the key to realize the transformation from large oil fields to large oil and gas fields in Xinjiang Oilfield.

On December 16, 2020, well Hutan 1, which embodies the great breakthrough of natural gas in the southern margin expected by generations, obtained high-yield industrial oil and gas flow in the well section 7367 ~ 7382m of Cretaceous Qingshuihe formation, with a daily output of 610000 cubic meters of natural gas and 106.3 cubic meters of crude oil, which is ready to emerge in the atmospheric area in the southern margin of Junggar basin. According to the evaluation of industry experts, the dawn of large-scale natural gas exploration in the basin has emerged.
