Expert Review Comments:
International advanced level. This project innovatively developed an IoT cloud platform for shale oil, integrating cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence technologies to establish a digital management system covering all business segments, including production, technology, safety, and operations. Through cloud-edge collaboration and intelligent closed-loop operation, the system achieves real-time monitoring, data mining, intelligent analysis, and decision optimization of the production process, significantly improving management efficiency and safety standards.
The project has been successfully applied to over 400 wells in the Qingcheng Oilfield, promoting the digital and intelligent transformation of shale oil development. It has achieved remarkable economic and social benefits, providing a replicable technical demonstration and practical model for the construction of smart oilfields.

Main Innovations:

This project has innovatively developed the first integrated, comprehensive, full-service IoT cloud platform for shale oil. It integrates production, technology, safety, and operations into multi-business, full-cycle intelligent management modules, pioneering the industry’s first industrial control IoT system based on a cloud architecture. The platform drives management transformation and efficiency improvement in shale oil development through digital-intelligent integration.
The intelligent monitoring and analysis technologies unlock the potential of data and stimulate high-quality productivity; upstream and downstream process linkage control deepens underlying logic and interlock management; the adoption of cloud-edge collaborative intelligent closed-loop operation technology optimizes organizational structures and management processes.

Main Uses and Technical Principles:

Main Uses:
The IoT cloud platform has broad application potential and strong adaptability. It can be deeply applied in fields such as oil and gas new energy, refining and new materials, engineering technology, and equipment manufacturing.

Technical Principles:
By adopting advanced technologies such as cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud-edge collaboration, the platform integrates functions such as real-time data acquisition, edge-side closed-loop interlock control, and intelligent decision-making. It forms a comprehensive intelligent management and control platform for oil and gas business scenarios, featuring production monitoring, multi-parameter linkage alarms, intelligent diagnostics, early warning, data-driven analysis, and intelligent comprehensive reporting.
The platform supports multiple data access protocols and storage formats, with capabilities for customized development and multi-system interaction. It assists users in establishing a full life-cycle management model characterized by “process integration, information interconnection, link supervision, and data intercommunication.”

Technical Applications:

Changqing Oilfield regards shale oil as an important replacement resource for large-scale and efficient production growth. It has conducted in-depth theoretical research, intensified technological innovation, and continuously strengthened management innovation. After discovering a shale oil field with proven geological reserves exceeding one billion tons, Changqing built the first national shale oil development demonstration zone with an annual capacity of one million tons, pioneering a new pathway for large-scale and efficient development of unconventional oil and gas resources.

Moreover, the launch of Changqing Oilfield’s first full life-cycle shale oil IoT cloud platform has realized full-business data sharing, autonomous and stable operation of oil wells, unmanned and steady operation of field stations, and intelligent and safe operation of pipelines. It has created an intelligent oilfield featuring real-time perception, intelligent analysis, and automatic control. Labor efficiency has been significantly improved, maintaining the one-million-ton operation scale with fewer than 200 workers, and achieving an average crude oil production contribution of 4,869 tons per person per year—ranking first in Changqing Oilfield and third among 98 oil production units in CNPC’s 2024 benchmarking evaluation.

As oil and gas exploration expands toward broader, deeper, and more complex reservoirs, Changqing Oilfield continues to accelerate resource conversion through theoretical and technological innovation. It will persist in tackling key technologies for the efficient development of unconventional resources, breaking through the limits of low-permeability, ultra-low-permeability, and unconventional resource exploitation. By establishing a technological innovation hub for low-permeability and unconventional oil and gas, the production scale is expected to reach two million tons by the end of the “14th Five-Year Plan.” The platform will gradually be promoted to the Fifth Oil Production Plant, Twelfth Oil Production Plant, Second Gas Production Plant, First Oil Transportation Division, and deep coalbed methane units, forming a set of replicable and applicable business scenario models and intelligent construction achievements.
